good news

Finally Starbucks Pick of the Week has something I love! I always take their song suggestions, but never like them...until this week! I've known the song for months and couldn't get it out of my brain, so I was literally about to go buy this song as I found the voice so captivating, when i saw it here for free. isn't that marvelous?

anyway, here's the song, if you like it, go enjoy a starbucks drink and download it!

Better late than never...

I just remembered I forgot to share the rest of couture week like I promised! Couldn't let that slide, since there were so many pieces that were perfect.
This is some of Chanel's collection. The beading and sequins are so intricate!

Anna Selezneva's outfit stood out because none of the rest of the collection was silver metallic, but i think its gorgeous:

every girl was wearing stacks of bangles, a look i've always loved:

Of course, Abbey Lee wears my favorite look:

Regina for your week

Its about time for some more Regina! The video gets a little repetitive, but the song is so gorgeous it makes up for the shortcomings.

My mind is being rearranged..

...because I dont understand how this is possible.

My vocal coach's daughter is in the a cappella group at James Madison University, called the Low Keys. She said she wanted me to listen because she loved it, and I thought she just wanted to show off her daughter Jamie.
But I think its unbelievable! There is absolutely nothing but human voices here. I think its gorgeous.

Color Me Katie

This is one of my all-time favorite blogs...all the things this girl comes up with!! make sure you go back far enough to see the paper decorations she puts all over her house. I swear, she makes sure to live her whole entire life by the Nothing But Lovely standard.

Maybe lovely?

I happen to find these very charming illustrations. But this could be my poor taste exposed. Did they bring you a blissful moment? Let me know, and then i'll know whether to stop bothering you with my sillyness. or perhaps maybe you're just a touch happy with these whimsical pictures, too.

Summer Celebration 1

All I've eaten today are millions of cherries.
I'm not even hungry for anything else.

They couldn't get any fruit-burstier

Kate

I have a confession to make:
I really want to see Salt.

Yes, that new Angelina Jolie movie.
I know-
lame.

But I do. I think Ms. Jolie is striking and powerful, and I'm honestly quite excited about it.

This goes against all my cool, indie, I-only-like-Zooey-Deschanel-and-Grace-Kelly movies self, but I cannot deny it.

know I typically don't share personal thoughts, so why this?

Well, it occurred to me that no matter how artsy or hipster or fashion forward we make ourselves, that only turns us into caricatures anyway. And erasing our lame corny quirks is a) impossible and b) undesirable. I'll never be a fantastic book or movie character; I might as well just enjoy the horribly normal human I really am.

I found the thought rather freeing.
And freedom (along with Angelina Jolie) is quite lovely.

couture week fall 2010

I'm saving the Chanel show for its own post because I couldn't pick few enough favorites, but heres a selected recap of the past 3 days:

Elie Saab was very...Elie Saab-y. ie, lots of flowy gowns:
I think Elie can go a little over the top often, but i love the cut and drape of this dress:

Givenchy featured just 11 gowns in white and gold, every extravagant:

armani prive gave us rustic metalics and artfully tailored jackets:

this is my favorite look, its so confident:Valentino didn't really thrill me, it was mostly solids in white, tan, and a bit of red and dusty blue, but I thought the cage idea was interesting:

Yes, I'm still proud to be...

I know I'm late, but the 4th of July is the only holiday I really love, and I just couldn't pass it up without celebrating it!
I love it for the weather, for the watermelon and popsicles, family cookouts and little kids over-eager flag flying, but most of all I love sharing a magnificent fireworks display with a whole group of excited Americans.

What I really wanted to post is a clip of the 1990 movie Avalon where the old immigrant man begins his story: I came to America in 1914. It was Independence Day...its one of the best opening scenes I know, but alas, not to be found online. So instead I present you with a rednecky version of the 4th of July, but a great song and a cowboy ruffian's attempt at loveliness:

My beloved Dior

I think its pretty obvious by now that I adore Christian Dior as rendered by the brilliant John Galliano, so I'm flipping excited his couture show came out yesterday! As usual, its mind blowing. So detailed and gorgeous. This time, however, there were a few things that bothered me that, if fixed, I would have loved this collection so much more. Still, good stuff.

Some highlights:

some amazing geometric and sherbert eye makeup (I wish he'd used a light gloss on the lip though, instead of the heavy berry):

Its also too bad he put the plastic wrap on, because the tulip-bulb inspired hairdos, like above, were so creative!

look at the watercolor petals that fall from this black dress:

And a parting look:

More couture to come, but Dior must come first.

There are even Sparklers!

So if I could wish myself a perfect day, it would be this. Except my day would be sunnier and warmer.

But everything else....could it get any happier?
