Oscars!!

Well, it was a pretty....pretty....and safe red carpet. Which makes for BORING!
Nothing was horrible, but nothing was jaw dropping, with the possible exception of this stunning beauty:

On the runway, I hated this dress, but Cate Blanchett has made something phenomenal of, and I don't even like Cate Blanchett!

After that, here were the best of the bland:
Camila's full skirt just worked really well, and Mathew looked appropriately proud of her:

Amy Adam's has been climbing back up to beautiful since a recent red carpet slump, and this blue works well for her:

My little love Hailee sketched this dress herself, and Marchesa made her dreams come true. No surprise, it's adorable:

Rounding out my favorites was Mila Kunis' Elie Saab, in a graceful pale violet. It works beautifully with her coloring:

credit to Celine Dion, Jennifer Connelly, and Jennifer Hudson for looking good, but just not quite fabulous enough.

Anyone I'm missing?r

Grammy 2011 recap

Fashion

Natasha Bedingfeld isn't stunning here, but this is my favorite I've ever seen her, this dress is really pretty, so kudos:

and keri Hilson's Basil Soda looks properly sassy. Again, not usually my style, but it works well for her:

I think this might be the first time I've featured Nicole Kidman, she looks classy and fresh:

and Rhianna's Jean Paul Gaultier is ridiculous and scandalous, but you can't say she didn't wear it with complete power!

Performances

So I missed the actual show, and only saw clips on Youtube, unfortunately. If saw a spectacular peformance I overlooked, just let me know!

I actually loved Lady Gaga's performance, but I feel a little guilty about posting it here, so we'll go with these:

For the biggest diva contest:

For the best perfomance of the night:

For the best representation of the lights, sets, dance and pizazz(plus the cutest thing ever= Will and Jada's proud faces)

Girl of the Moment

Meet Hailee Steinfeld, famous for True Grit, which I haven't seen, and don't intend to see, because I hated the original. And...because I don't think I could bear to see Matt Damon look so unattractive.

Anyway, even though I havent seen the film, I've seen her red carpet appearances, like I featured on the Golden Globes. This 14 year old has got some style class! Its youthful and modest, but fun and fashionable. Definitely my favorite Girl Of the Moment!

First of all, she is perfectly cute:

Second, her red carpet choices have been completely refreshing:

^her most recent sashay down the red carpet in Prada at the SAG awards

^ the Prabal Gurung I've already gotten excited over

Third, her True Grit premieres were all young and she smiled at every photo (go away, Taylor Momsen):

Now she has an Oscar nomination...can't wait to see what else blooms for this little beauty!

Cannes

There's been many stunning gowns so far, but I really can't pay attention to any of them, since this particular one leaves them all so far in the dust.
I've never been a fan of Cate Blanchett. I"m still not, I didn't like her in Elizabeth or in Benjamin Button, though they were both excellent movies and she's a great actress. I just don't think she has a winning personality, and is certianly not pretty.

But even Cate cannot manage to dull this gown grandeur!!

Alexander McQueen had a mind for fashion that I don't think will be seen again in my lifetime. I miss him already.

Click on the photo to see the back, its also perfect.

For once and finally!

So there's actually been a few decent red carpet outfits lately.
No kidding, right?

I know, it's been forever since someone was phenomenal. And I'm not claiming these ladies are phenomenal but...well, they're getting closer than anyone's ever gotten in a LONG time!
And that's wonderfully encouraging.
Let me prove my point:

I know this isn't the greatest photo of the dress, but its the best I could find. Diane Kruger seems to always look perfect:

I hate to admit it of any Disney teen queen, but Selena Gomez has unbeatable fashion sense for herself. This is just one of my favorites on her recently. Her easy Alice + Olivia concert dresses are all also adorable.

All for a new print paired with the perfect cut:

And I have no idea who this woman is, but she wears this dress so well! Its stunning on her, and such a gorgeous couture gown.

Red Carpet Fashion: Oscars

Dissapointing season again...what's with this?

Still, a few winners I can salvage and display:

i know this might be unpopular, and i typically hate Miley's red carpet style, but I think she looked brilliant at the Oscars. Perfect fit, lovely color, and adore the hair and makeup!

This would have been my favorite gown if it had been in electric blue or cream or mint. The style is stunning. Mariska Hagartiy isn't especially beautiful, but this is such a good dress!

Honestly, I chose this because I love the pink matte lipstick paired with the blue of the dress. props for prints on the red carpet...though I wish Maggie Gyllenhaal would start wearing a bra:

This is a not-quite-as-wonderful version of Miley's gown. It's here because I love the hair blowout, and Cameron Diaz hasn't looked this good on the red carpet in years!

Honestly, I just love the dress on Karlie Kloss. but Jennifer Lopez gives it her best, and if she was posing better, it would have actually been gorgeous. This gown is inspired by the moon:

Still going back and forth on this one. Zoe's dress (no surprise) got the most attention. What do I think? The top is flawless. The bottom, I still can't decide. Any opinions?

Grammy fashion 2010

Sadly, once again, pretty much a failure on the red carpet. Here are the best two I can bring you, and even these are not very original:

Carrie Underwood is always gorgeous, and she actually managed to keep herself at the powerhouse singing level of Jennifer Hudson and Celine Dion, I was amazed and impressed. Love this girl!

I gotta give it to Fergie, she always knows what's best for her body. Its a great color, perfect fit...well done.

SAG Awards

I have been told thirty million times that I look like Sandra Bullock, and it drives me crazy, because I think she's completely unattractive. Her style, too, is often terrible! So its with great pride that I canf finally put her on a best dressed list, and say she looks brilliant! Its an Alexander McQueen gown, it fits perfectly, and the electric blue lights up her face: Kate Hudson is just so pretty, I don't know if i'm just distracted by that. She's gorgeous! But this is an elegant, unique gown that I think she wears outstandingly:

Monique Lhuillier made a very lovely dress, but I hate Drew's makeup, so its hard for me to appreciate it. Still, ignore the face, check out the gown!!

Diane Kruger is quickly becoming the queen of the red carpet. Everyone is comparing this to Michelle William's Oscar gown (which, in my opinion, it doesn't even come close-that was as near to perfect as a look could be!). Still, its lovely, unique, and couture:

2009 Fashion Awards

Kate's 2009 Fashion Awards!

There were many beautiful dresses this year, and I enjoyed every single one of them. Picking out my very favorites was a hard task, because there were just so many!
So I've decided to divide several of them up into categories, so I can share as much lovlieness with you as possible!
Enjoy!
If you have any gowns that particularly stand out to you as needing to be on this list, let me know! I'd love to hear commentary.
Now, without further ado, lets get started......

For Best Color, I have to begrudgingly give it to Shakira. The dress is cheerful and bright, and very flattering. She made all the right choices with hair, jewelry, and makeup.

My Best Bling award is a tie beBoldtween two pretty country blondes. Maybe I could split it up into Best Gold, for Julianne Hough's glowing look, and Best Silver, for Taylor Swift's sleek shimmer.

Overall Most Bold
award goes to Rihanna, who, I admit, has had some absolute failures, but has continued to push the envelope and found some absolutely stunning and surprising gowns.

The Best Ball Gown award goes to Marion Cotiliard, who is always dressed gorgeously, at the Oscars for her black and blue Dior tulle perfection:
Best Black award goes to Reese Witherspoon at the CMAs. She makes this gorgeous dress look refined and lovely instead of sleazy, and her hair and makeup complement it perfectly!Best Short goes to Carrie Underwood (Grammy party), in Georges Shakra. It fits her perfectly, has a very unique style, and absolutely shines!
Evan Rachel Wood recieves the overall Most Elegant 2009 award, for classy and stunning pieces like these two. She seems to have left behind her gothic past and embraced her porcelain beauty!

And I know some may disagree with me, but I'm giving Katy Perry the Best Stylish Quirky award for finding creative dresses that aren't ridiculous, but well fitting and fun.

Looking back

And so 2010 begins!

I don't know about you, but I am looking forward to the change. Its been a draining and often frustrating year...so I'm sure liking the idea of a blank page and a totally new decade! Hopefully it'll be lovely for everyone.

Before we step into all this newness, though, I thought it'd be good to take a quick look back at some of the loveliness of 2009. There were certainly some great moments, and I'd like to share some. Enjoy some encouraging stories, and some of my favorites in fashion and music.

Favorite red carpet gown:

Man, this was hard for me!! There were many absolutely gorgeous red carpet gowns, just like every year. I looked through them all and sighed with happiness at their beauty. This one, January Jone's wearing Atelier Versace at the Emmy awards kept staying in my mind.

I love the absolute uniqueness of it...haven't seen anything like it ever before! Its almost white, but barely mint green. It has an intriciate, structured bodice and a dreamy flowing skirt. The gown fits her perfectly.

And so, for it's uniqueness and beauty, I crown it my favorite gown.

I will, however, be posting some runners-up later; there were too many pretty dresses to feature just one!!

A happy news story of 2009:

Woman's Cabdriver donates his kidney

Rita Van Loenen had kidney failure, and was on dialysis 4 times monthly. She had the same taxi driver every time, Thomas Chappell. Their friendship grew through those drives, and when Mr. Chappell found out that her kidney transplant had failed, he offered to donate his own. Still, Rita was touched by her cabbie's life-changing donation offering. Of course, this was no guarantee that the kidney was going to match...

it did!

This year, Rita will receive her cabbie's kidney. The fit was perfect, the doctor's said it was as if they were siblings. What a precious story! I think it's even more precious when you see the two friends:
